Six Houses and New Road (Swan Avenue) Hastings
On the site of the stables of the Royal Swan Hotel in Hastings Old Town was another development by Ward. A new road with six houses designed by Henry Ward in 1889 for local builder Taylor Brothers was sited off Hill Street and built on the site of the stables of the demolished hotel, with houses 1,2 & 3 to the south and 4,5 & 6 to the north. The houses to the north were built above the stables and vaults of the former hotel.
The Royal Swan Hotel was sold and demolished in 1889 and replaced by the smaller Swan Public House that was destroyed by enemy action in WWll where the site is marked by a small public garden.
